Accessing Services

Two women looking at a documentThe first point of contact for accessing any health service is usually through a General Practitioner (GP).

On the basis of their assessment, a GP can provide medication, and refer to counselling or cognitive behavioural therapy services within the GP’s practice.  If the illness is more complicated, a referral can be made to a psychiatrist and Community Mental Health Team.

Social care services are provide by the local authority, who can refer people to independent living services.  These services are usually accessed through the Community Mental Health Team.  You can contact a Community Mental health team directly, although they may ask for a referral to be made by your GP.

Loud and Clear help many people to access the services they need.
